The Reflections Body Image Program at the University of Arizona sarted in the Spring Semester of 2011. The program helps women establish positive body image and reaffirm the healthy ideal while ridding the the society and media perpetuated thin ideal. As the first scientifically supported evidence based body image awareness program designed for and with sororities, Reflections helps participants resist the unrealistic, thin ideal standard of female beauty prevalent in today’s society. Through a variety of structured discussions, activities, and exercises led by peer facilitators, participants are empowered to embrace the healthy ideal, reduce their own body dissatisfaction, decrease “fat talk” in their daily life and recognize all of the wonderful non-appearance related aspects of themselves and others. So far the program has been a success; over 400 Panhellenic women have participated!
